Course Description:
Using Military Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) guidelines, students will
learn to provide care under fire, tactical field care, and tactical evacuation
care in hostile environments for law enforcement, SWAT teams, and Tactical EMS
units.
Topics Include:
Tactical operations and movement, role of the Tactical Medic, medical threat
assessment, Tactical Combat Casualty Care (BLS/ALS), medical and tactical
equipment considerations, high threat extraction techniques, medicine over the
barricade, tactical planning, team health, helicopter safety and aero-medical
resource utilization, police K9 medicine, IED/hazardous environments, tactical
vehicle extrication, crime scene management for EMS , stress inoculation
scenarios, active shooter response for TEMS, mass casualty triage, and medical
response to 4th generation warfare/asymmetrical warfare.
The course uses realistic high-speed scenario based tactical training during day
and night operations combined with classroom and hands-on practical skill
stations. No prior tactical or medical experience is required.
TCCC concepts are endorsed by the following Organizations: National Tactical
Officers Association, National Association of EMT's, Midwest Tactical Officers
Association, American College of Surgeons, and US Military Committee on Tactical
Combat Casualty Care.
Class Admission Criteria:
Due to the sensitive nature of the law enforcement information provided,
students must meet one of the following two criteria to be admitted into this
course:
A current employment or affiliation with a federal, state or local law
enforcement agency,
OR
be a State of Wisconsin-licensed EMT at any level, (basic through paramedic), WI
certified medical First Responder, LPN, RN or MD, and have fire department,
ambulance, or hospital emergency department affiliation.
All students enrolled in course may be subject to background verification and
can be excluded from the course for any legal reason, including safety concerns,
criminal background issue(s), failure to complete required paperwork, failure to
comply with the provisions contained within the syllabus, or other reason as
dictated by WCTC policy. The contents of this introduction are presented as
information only. The participants who attended this presentation are not
"certified" in the tenants of Tactical Combat Casualty Care, or Tactical EMS,
and must be licensed or otherwise be legally allowed by their particular agency
to provide any of the skills taught in this course, including performing
advanced medical procedures and weapons handling.
Attendance Requirements:
Students must attend 100% of all classes. Due to safety concerns and safety
checks being conducted prior to class, students will not be allowed to arrive
late or leave early except at the instructor's discretion for extenuating
circumstances only.
