How to Get There:  Defining Community Paramedicine for Today and Tomorrow

June 1, 2015 - 31 minutes and 40 seconds
Guest:  Gary Wingrove, Director of Strategic Affairs, Gold Cross Ambulance, affiliated with Mayo Clinic Medical Transport, Rochester, MN

In this episode we discuss Community Paramedicine.  PAAW first discussed CP as a webcast back in June 2011.  My guest then was Gary Wingrove – a true visionary about CP concepts.  The conversation regarded CP as an emerging trend.  Well, here we are today nearly four years later again talking with Gary about CP.  This time, though, CP is real and getting bigger every day.  I'm sure there isn't a day that goes by that an EMS director doesn't think about or discuss CP.

There are about 1,000 paramedics in the United States now that have completed a Community Paramedic curriculum, roughly 600 of them trained by Hennepin Technical College in Minneapolis.  Many of their distance learning CP classes are full with students from the US and abroad.

CP didn’t just show up.  Like anything it continues to evolve, but what’s the vision for CP?  Where is it going to lead those who perform and deliver pre and post hospital and home health medical care for patient treatment and monitoring?  What is the big picture outlook for CP?

We again go back to our good friend, Gary Wingrove, director for strategic affairs at Gold Gross Ambulance, which is affiliated with Mayo Clinic Medical Transport, to get these answers and more.
