Time to Pay Attention to EMT Wage and Labor Laws
September 18, 2012 - Run Time 18:50
Guest: Jim Chiolino, Director, Labor Standards Bureau, WI Dept. of Workforce Development
As EMT training and call requirements continue to increase and their leaders face new challenges, so comes the need to respond quickly and perform at a higher level. After all, EMTs save lives.
And while ambulance service managers and leaders work with policy and procedures, one that maybe hasn’t been given a lot of attention is wage and labor laws, even though they’ve been around longer than AEDs.
This webcast is dedicated to discussing EMT pay, nominal fees, defining “true” volunteer and on call restrictions. Just as important we identify some differences in the handling of wage and labor between municipal government ambulance services and those organized as 501(c)(3) nonprofits or private for profits.
