Community Paramedics: An Emerging EMS Delivery Model in the U.S.
June 2, 2011 - Run Time 16:59
Guest: Gary Wingrove, Government Relations & Strategic Affairs, Mayo Clinic Medical Transportation
It was difficult to keep this interview to ten minutes, because there's a lot of talk these days regarding community paramedicine. On April 6, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton signed Chapter 12 of the 2011 legislative session, authorizing establishment of the first-ever statewide community paramedicine program. Wisconsin recently announced a community paramedic pilot that is taking shape in Baraboo, and being coordinated by the Medical School at the University of Wisconsin. One of the foremost experts in this area is Gary Wingrove. He offers an excellent perspective in this 17-minute conversation that further defines EMS and what the future may look like for providers given this new and emerging mindset in the U.S.
