EMS in Wisconsin is changing. Will you be a part of it or be left behind? Across the nation, EMS agencies of all sizes and types are partnering with hospitals, primary care physicians, nurses, mental health and social services, and other local healthcare providers in leading-edge programs through Community EMS (CEMS), also known as Mobile Integrated Healthcare. Community EMS is a program that can work in every service area and stretches from the EMT to the paramedic levels regardless if your EMS system is stand-alone or fire-based. CEMS programs are intended to be defined and implemented according to the specific needs in your community. Each community has different needs. Therefore, the program you put in place will be dependent on an evaluation of the current gaps in healthcare where you live and work. Successful CEMS programs are expanding throughout Wisconsin and are already transforming the care being provided in those communities.

Together we can improve patient outcomes, create healthcare system efficiencies, and lower costs by helping to reduce avoidable patient admissions and readmissions. Most importantly, patients are provided with a variety of vital resources that they might not otherwise receive. CEMS programs ease the strain on EMS and care organizations, thereby producing a more sustainable healthcare system.

This session is put on by Wisconsin stakeholders – for Wisconsin stakeholders – and builds upon previous statewide discussions. You will hear from several Wisconsin agencies that have successfully rolled out CEMS programs in their communities. You will have the opportunity to learn how they were able to involve several key people from their communities to enhance patient advocacy and improve patient outcomes. By participating in the discussion, you will help strengthen Wisconsin’s healthcare system. As a participant, you will receive a toolkit that contains sample templates and other guidance documents that will help you implement a CEMS program in your community. This is the largest initiative to impact EMS since the inception of EMS. The time is now to determine if this program is a fit for your community. Class size is limited.
